Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Washington for a three-day state visit. Although U.S. President Trump personally greeted him at the airport, highlighting the importance placed on the visit, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent, after meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Washington on Wednesday, told reporters that both sides agreed to extend the trade truce by two months until January 10 next year. This falls short of earlier reports suggesting China had hoped for an extension until the end of Trump's term, or even the rumored U.S. proposal of a six-month extension.
Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 24,694, down 139 points or 0.6%, with main board turnover nearing HK$32.4 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index is at 8,235, down 38 points or 0.5%. The Hang Seng Tech Index is at 4,341, down 38 points or 0.9%.
