US President Trump personally arrived at Andrews Air Force Base to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping. Breaking over 60 years of diplomatic convention, Trump welcomed Xi's visit to the US with exceptionally high diplomatic protocol, described as "extraordinary courtesy."

As Chinese and US leaders begin their state visit, US Treasury Secretary Besent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng announced after their meeting on Wednesday that both sides have agreed to extend their trade truce until January 10 next year. When asked whether a broader agreement could be reached before the new deadline, Besent said, "I don't know if we can reach a larger agreement, or whether we are just extending the current one."

Regarding potential outcomes from the Xi-Trump meeting, Besent indicated, "We may see announcements related to financial services and agricultural product purchases."
