The last time a U.S. president personally went to the base to greet a foreign leader visiting the U.S. was 64 years ago in 1962, when President Kennedy welcomed then British Prime Minister Macmillan. More notably, in 1959 during the Cold War, then U.S. President Eisenhower welcomed Soviet leader Khrushchev.

　　Trump has broken over 60 years of diplomatic precedent by welcoming Xi Jinping's visit to the U.S. with exceptionally high diplomatic protocol, described as "extraordinary courtesy." Adam Farrar of Bloomberg Economics Research said, "Eisenhower welcomed Khrushchev hoping to change the course of the Cold War. Trump rolling out the red carpet for Xi Jinping is more about managing tensions than resolving conflicts."

　　Joseph Torigian, a China scholar at American University in Washington, said: "This aligns with Trump's consistent view that international politics largely depends on personal relationships."

　　Observers believe that core issues of the Xi-Trump meeting include tariff barriers, supply chain restructuring, AI regulations, and semiconductor export controls. As Xi arrived in the U.S., U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent announced that China and the U.S. agreed to extend their trade truce until January 10 next year, seen as a "welcoming gift" from both sides.
