According to the "ET Net News Agency Special Report on the 31st," union members of General Motors (US.GM) Canada on Sunday (30th) voted to ratify a new three-year collective agreement. The deal covers approximately 4,600 employees in Ontario and confirms that GM will invest over C$1.1 billion (about US$790 million) in its Canadian operations to cope with the pressure of rising U.S. tariffs.
Under the agreement, GM will spend C$144 million to produce the next-generation GMC Sierra heavy-duty trucks at its Oshawa plant in Ontario. Another C$215 million will be invested in the St. Catharines plant to produce next-generation transmissions, which is expected to begin by the end of 2029. The company had also previously committed C$691 million to support the production of next-generation V8 engines.
In addition, GM has promised not to sell or close the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, for the time being, and will explore other manufacturing uses. Union members will also receive a 3% wage increase annually for three consecutive years.
